PhD Positions in Quantum Information

We are inviting applications for several PhD positions in quantum information – a vibrant research field at the interface of mathematics, physics, and computer science. You will have the opportunity to take an active role in shaping the direction of your research project. Possible topics include but are not limited to:

Please see our homepage and publications for an overview of current research directions in the group. The starting date is negotiable, but is ideally no later than fall 2026.

In addition to exciting research projects and a friendly and stimulating work environment, we can offer a generous travel budget that allows for attending relevant conferences and summer schools to present your research to the international community, visit collaborators, etc. You will be employed on a fixed-term 75% E13 position with an initial appointment of two years (with the goal of extending for the duration of your PhD).

In Munich, you can expect an excellent research environment in quantum information science, with two leading universities and several Max Planck Institutes, the Munich Quantum Center (MQC), the Munich Quantum Valley (MQV), and the DFG Cluster of Excellence Munich Center for Quantum Science and Technology (MCQST), which offer many activities that you will be able to participate in. Our group is part of the Faculty of Physics and co-affiliated with the Faculty of Mathematics, Computer Science, and Statistics. LMU is one of Europe's leading research institutions.
