PhD Positions in Quantum Information
We are inviting applications for several PhD positions in quantum information – a vibrant research field at the interface of mathematics, physics, and computer science. You will have the opportunity to take an active role in shaping the direction of your research project. Possible topics include but are not limited to:
- quantum information theory
- quantum algorithms and complexity
- quantum cryptography
- quantum information in many-body physics and space-time
- quantum programming languages and formal methods
- mathematical and computer science foundations and connections
What we can offer
You will be part of an interdisciplinary international team that is working on central research questions in the field. In addition to exciting research projects and a friendly and stimulating work environment, we can offer a generous travel budget that allows for attending relevant conferences and summer schools to present your research to the international community, visit collaborators, etc. You will be employed on a fixed-term 75% E13 position with an initial appointment of two years (with the goal of extending for the duration of your PhD).
In Munich, you can expect an excellent research environment in quantum information science, with two leading universities and several Max Planck Institutes, the Munich Quantum Center (MQC), the Munich Quantum Valley (MQV), and the DFG Cluster of Excellence Munich Center for Quantum Science and Technology (MCQST), which offer many activities that you will be able to participate in. Our group is part of the Faculty of Physics and co-affiliated with the Faculty of Mathematics, Computer Science, and Statistics. LMU is one of Europe's leading research institutions.
